Motorsports Runs Out Front
Eagle River, WI (June 27, 2007) – Mike Oberg came to his home track in
Crandon, looking to continue his streak on podium finishes. The first two
rounds saw the #80 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Chevrolet Silverado finish second and
third, now the team was gunning for a win.
Round Three
The start saw Mike grab the holeshot, with fellow AMSOIL Super Team
member, Dan Vandenhuvel in second, and Scott Taylor in third. The next
nine laps saw Mike apply the Pro Power horsepower to the Kumho Tires as
the #80 brought home the win.
- “The
truck was just flawless,” commented Mike Oberg. ”We grabbed the holeshot
and stayed in the clean air the entire time. I saw Dan and Scott
battling it out behind me, but this truck was perfect. AMSOIL kept
everything running cool and strong. My team really gave me a great ride
today.”
- Round
Four
The start saw Mike come out of Turn One in third place behind #99 Probst and
#8 Taylor. As the top two battled for the lead, Mike kept his AMSOIL Chevy
within striking distance. On lap three, Probst grabbed the lead with Mike
right on his bumper. The top two trucks stayed glued to each all the way to
the finish.
At the flag it was Probst 1st, Mike Oberg 2nd, and Vandenhuvel 3rd.
“Kevin and I had good battle today, we raced clean, the AMSOIL kept us
running cool, the Kumhos keep us headed for the front, and the Fox Shox keep
the truck handling great,” remarked Mike Oberg.
- Forest
County Potawatomi Chairman’s Cup
This unique event pits the fastest two-drive trucks against the fastest
four-wheel drive trucks in WSORR competition. The two-drive trucks get about
a quarter mile head start for the big money 10-lap sprint.
The start saw #99 Probst, #8 Taylor and #80 Mike Oberg battle for the top
spot. By the third lap, the #80 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Chevrolet Silverado went
into the lead. Now the race really got exciting. Could the top 4x4 trucks
slice through the field and catch Mike?
First, fellow AMSOIL Kumho Super Team member, #7 Scott Douglas was on his
heels, but slowed due to mechanical woes. Then #17 Renezeder made the charge
to challenge Mike. The final two laps saw Renezeder right on Mike’s bumper.
Then with only two corners until the finish, Renezeder made an inside move
and cleanly passed for the lead.
At the finish it was Carl Renezeder – first, Mike Oberg – second, and Kent
Brascho - third.
Since Mike was the highest finishing two-wheel drive truck, he came home
with second place money as well as a bonus for the first finishing two-wheel
drive truck.
- Afterward
and elated Mike Oberg commented, “We almost had’em. I knew Carl was back
there, but he got a good bite coming out of that corner, and that was it.
Once again my crew gave me a great truck to drive. Thanks to all my
sponsors, AMSOIL Kumho Tires, American Racing, Lund and everyone else. J &
H builds an awesome transmission, the Pro Power engine just keeps on
pulling. First two-wheel drive, and second only to Carl is pretty good.
Thanks to Forest County Potawatomi for getting behind the series and this
event. Can’t wait to get to Bark River.”
