Oberg
Motorsports Glad to Get Back Behind the Wheel @ PDG Test
Perris, CA (April 22, 2009) – Nearly seven months to the day was the last
time Mike Oberg put the pedal to metal on his #80 AMSOIL Kumho Tire Chevy
Silverado PRO-2WD race truck. The premature ending of the 2008 short
course season sent Oberg Motorsports back home to Eagle River, Wisconsin
without anywhere to practice, let alone race.
“It was unfortunate the way the season ended last year, we were making
great progress with our new truck and looking for a great finish to the
year, but the sanctioning body folded and we headed back home,” noted Mike
Oberg.
Eagle River, Wisconsin is located in Northern Wisconsin where the first
snow fall can happen in early October, and the ground usually doesn’t thaw
and dry out until mid-April. This prevents Midwest teams like Oberg
Motorsports from testing during much of the off-season.
The
newly formed Professional Drivers Group (PDG) put together a two day test
session with The Off-Road Championship (TORC) series to help team prepare
for the upcoming season. When the announcement was released for the test
event, Oberg Motorsports title sponsor, AMSOIL, helped all the PDG
membership by underwriting the event, making it a free two-day test
session.
The test sessions ran all afternoon and into the night on Sunday, and
again during the middle of the day on Monday. Mike and his crew chief,
Cory Lambert, were glad to have this opportunity to go to the West Coast
for the test session.
“Both
trucks have been ready since last September, most of my time, this winter
has been spent ordering and making spare parts for the 2009 season,”
explained Cory Lambert. “It’s great to be back at the track.”
Oberg Motorsports took advantage of every chance they could to get on the
.7 mile track at Perris Auto Speedway. The team experimented with
different tire grooves and sway bar combinations, and by Sunday’s final
night test session. The grey and black AMSOIL Chevy Silverado was set up
to run some of the fastest times in the session.
“AMSOIL really supports our team well,” stated Mike Oberg. “Now they are a
sponsor of the TORC series and to top it all off, they are helping all the
PDG drivers with a no fee two day test session. I truly believe their
synthetic oil products are the best in the industry and they have to be on
of the best supporters of short course off-road racing.”
The down time between test sessions, AMSOIL Motorsports Director, Jeremy
Meyer, put Mike to work as he and Scott Douglas filmed several video spots
for the upcoming season.
Mike Oberg continues to spread the good word about AMSOIL synthetic engine
lubricants.
The season begins May 15, as Oberg Motorsports travels to The Dirt Track @
Texas Motor Speedway for the opening rounds of the inaugural season of the
Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL.
